Get Things Done Fast With Our APA Citation Generator

If you are already familiar with at least one academic writing style, APA will not seem like rocket science to you. However, if you are new to academic writing or do not know why your paper has been graded low, our helpful APA guide will assist you in making things right. Most importantly, our APA citation generator is the secret tool that will help you get things done fast without costing a dime!

What is APA Formatting?

APA stands for American Psychological Association, yet it does not mean that this style is used only for Psychology assignments. It is also used for Social Sciences, Education, Linguistics, Political Sciences, History, and Anthropology. APA style is used for any serious academic research, which is why it is one of the most common formats. Currently, in its 7th edition, it has some rules that are different when compared to the previous edition, which will also be covered in our guide. Make sure that you double-check with your requirements as you compose your paper’s template.

APA can seem challenging, yet this stereotype has been born out of paper types. When you plan to work with a dissertation or apply for your Master’s program, APA style use will be one of those requirements that you should master. It is a reason why using our APA reference generator will come in handy for all your citation needs.

Most importantly, learning how the APA format works in practice will help you to avoid plagiarism risks and assist you in keeping your arguments supported with quotes and paraphrasing. As a rule, only those papers that have good academic structure receive good grades and achieve success.

General APA Format Requirements

  • Your essay text should be double-spaced. Use only standard-sized paper as given by the APA 7th manual. It requires 8.5 inches to 11 inches with margins on all sides.
  • The recommended font is Times New Roman, 12 pt.
  • Remember to insert the “Running Head” at the top of every page. You must include it in your page’s header. Doing so, make sure to flush your page number to the right. Next, type your paper’s title in capital letters and flush it to the left.
  • In most cases, your “Running Head” should not include more than 50 characters. It is only a shortened version of your paper’s original title, which is why it must be kept short.
  • Your APA document must have 4 major sections, namely: Title Page, Abstract, Body Paragraphs, References.
  • Speaking of Abstract, your keywords must be placed after an indent.
  • Your abstract should not be longer than 200 words, according to the APA manual 7th edition.
  • Your title page should have the paper’s title centered along with a student’s name, your institution, course, and date.
  • Your APA title should be no longer than 12 words.
  • Remember to double-space all your text, including your title’s page and References.

In some cases, it may be required to indicate the location of your research. It is done below your university’s name on the title page. It may not be necessary to include an Abstract page, which is why always check this information with your academic advisor. The “Abstract” word is centered at the top with the same page’s header.

Where and How to Use APA In-Text Citations

You should not worry about your APA in-text citations. For our examples, we shall implement the newest APA edition.

According to an NBC survey, “Native American art became popular among middle-school learners because of their fascination with related books and adventure traits” (Holmes, 2015, p.200).

Another way to cite your source in-text would be this way:

“According to Holmes (2015), “Native American art became popular among middle-school learners because of their fascination with related books and adventure traits” (p.200).

Of course, you may have multiple authors, yet it is not too difficult:

The exploration done by Berry and Mick (2019) helped the scientists to see that…
According to the latest surveys… (Berry & Mick, 2019)

When you have 3 to 5 authors, it is:

(Wallace, Torn, Gilmour & Phelps, 2000)

Now if you have more than five authors, it will become:

(Wallace et al., 2021)

Now some of our sources will have no author, which is why you should use:

(Polar Bears Establish Friendly Bonds, 2009) as the title of your source or use the  organization’s name: (NASA, 2020).

APA References Page Citations With Examples

Instead of listing every example out there, we decided to focus on the basic example to help you move along more quickly. Remember that this is done for your good before you switch to our APA Citation Generator! Seriously though, here is our References template for the most complex part (a journal citation):

Last Name, A., & Last Name, B. (Year). Your Title. Journal, Volume. URL.
Sanders, A., & Stranberg, J. (2000). Sweden Uncovered: a comprehensive review of Swedish culture. Culture Explorer, 7. https://doi.org/10.xxxx/xxxx.2000.00212.

Not too bad, right? Now let us continue with the books:

Author’s Last Name, X. Z. (Year of publication). Title of work: Capital letter (also for subtitle). Publisher.
Ford, L.C. (2019). The Violence in Soweto Suburbs: the cultural clash problem. Elsevier Publishing.

If you do not know who the author is and has only an editor, the newest APA edition rule does it this way:

Dimebag, D. R., & Born, A. (Eds.). (1972). Psychological Effects of Morphine. Ringo Publishing House.

APA Website Reference List Citing Template:

Last Name, A. B. & Last Name C. D. (Date of publication). Title of page [Format description when necessary]. Retrieved from https://www.url.com/

If you do not know your author, use the (n.d.) part instead. For example:

Black Fly in Iceland. (n.d.) Retrieved from https://www.site.com

Some of us will encounter newspaper resources citing APA. It works like this:

Surname, Z. X. (Year, Month Day). Title of the article. Title of Newspaper, p.11.

  3. Enter your book’s title or ISBN.
  4. Click on the “Generate” button to receive your complete citation.

Alternatively, you can click on “Manual” and add your information step-by-step. This way you can work with some odd sources like Youtube or scientific journals. Still, our APA Citation generator can handle YouTube links and DOI numbers of academic magazines, which is why it lets you save some time and keep your citations accurate. Once done, you can copy your in-text and References quotes or download your file in MS Word format.

APA 7th Edition Differences

The main difference that APA 7th edition changes have introduced is abandoning the publisher’s location and state. It is no longer necessary. Nevertheless, some universities in the United States still use the APA 6th edition, which only means that you would have to add things like “Pasadena: CA” for your citation when mentioning the publisher.

Next, you do not have to use “Retrieved from” or “Accessed from” before your URL. Finally, the  APA citation guide 6th edition asked to list every author, while APA 7th edition lets you use the “et al.” part instead if you have over five authors.

American Psychological Association Format Safety Rules

When we mention the matters of APA format safety, we would like to tell you that even when you use our free APA citation generator, remember to double-check your citations in your paper in terms of spaces, indents, or even repetitions that may happen in several cases. If you are dealing with something overly complex and feel doubtful, contact one of our experts to determine what should be done. Here are some things that must be checked:

  • Check your title page and the running header.
  • Make sure that you do not start or end your paragraph with a quote. While it is acceptable, it is not the best way to work with an academic paper.
  • Search and check spaces and italics for titles of your APA papers.
